In collaboration with Phison Electronics, Sabrent America is developing a PCIe Gen 5 SSD that will reach incredible speeds of 14 Gbps. The new Sabrent Rocket X5 Gen 5 SSD is currently in the testing stages, but the company has presented benchmarking results to show its incredible strengths.

Sabrent America & Phison Electronics are close to reaching 14 Gbps transfer speeds with upcoming PCIe Gen 5 SSDs

With Sabrent's recent tech demonstration, Phison released sample results of the progress. The two companies are looking to improve the results and increase their performance to record-breaking levels. Currently, Sabrent has surpassed read/write numbers with today's current technologies.

The recent CrystalDiskMark tests show that the companies have established a sequential read and write of 12 Gbps. However, with the two companies' current limitations, 14,000 MB/s is quite a lofty goal. The two companies hope to reach other levels at a reasonably quick pace.

With the current tests, they feel that the new Rocket X5 SSD may require renaming and new labeling so that they can move forward with what has currently been developed. But what is most impressive is how far Sabrent and Phison have come with reaching 12 Gbps and continuing to reach the 14 Gbps read and write speeds. The current specification limitations with the current PCIe 5.0 x4 generation are between 14 to 15 Gbps transfer speeds. Sabrent and Phison looking to reach those goals is a win-win for both companies and would be profitable.

Issues with producing 2400 MTps 3D NAND flash memory are holding back that goal — a crucial ingredient for accessing such a fast read-write speed. And the amount of manufacturers at this time that creates 2400 MTps is quite limited. Two of the three companies that make 3D NAND are SK Hynix and YMTC, and neither has reached that speed. On the other hand, Micron has the capability but is limited by chip yield shortages that have limited the ability to produce SSDs fast enough.

Sabrent will release the Rocket X5 with what technology they can implement to make it a strong candidate in the SSD marketplace. Still, knowing that the company is optimistic that they can reach the 14 Gbps transfer speeds, it is only a matter of time before it will become a reality. The company is assuring that new products will release thanks soon to the company's current Test Lab working on other innovative products in the coming months.
